Education holds a deeply personal place in my heart. My parents are immigrants who gave up everything to build a better life for me and my siblings. They made countless sacrifices so we could have access to opportunities they never had, and for them, education was the key to that better life.

Watching them work tirelessly, despite the odds, instilled in me a profound respect for the power of education and the lengths parents will go to for their children’s futures. Now that I’m a mom myself, I understand that drive even more. I want nothing more than for my children to have the best education possible–one where they are seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

That’s why the work I do is so personal. I know what it’s like to struggle in a system that wasn’t built for me. Every day, I’m motivated by the belief that every student deserves an education that is inclusive, supportive, and empowering.

My first year at the Butte County Office of Education has been nothing short of transformative. Growing up, as a student, I struggled without the vital support I so desperately needed. Bilingual instruction, ESL programs, and even basic materials in my native language were out of reach. As a dual-language learner, it’s incredibly emotional and fulfilling to now be in a position where I can help ensure today’s students get the opportunities and resources I never had.

I vividly remember the struggles I faced, trying to learn English in a school system that didn’t see or understand me. I felt invisible and unsupported. Those experiences left a lasting impact on me. Now, being part of an organization that puts students first above all else, it feels like I’ve come full circle. This isn’t just a job to me. It’s a way of giving back and helping children who are walking a path I know all too well. It’s a way of honoring that little girl I once was and ensuring that every child feels supported and seen.

While I may not be out in the field visiting school sites, I’m grateful to play a supportive role in the work our coordinators and administrators do. I aim to ensure that everything runs smoothly for them as they work directly with schools. I also provide support in organizing and executing the Professional Learning Events that our Coordinated District Support (CDS) team puts together for educators across the county. Knowing that I’m contributing to programs and events that equip teachers with the tools and knowledge they need to support their students makes my work feel so meaningful.

Working at BCOE has truly been a special experience. From the moment I joined, I’ve felt valued and supported, not just as an employee, but as a person. The work I do is appreciated and valued. This makes my contributions feel even more meaningful. The sense of community here is undeniable. It feels like a second home, where diversity is embraced and everyone is encouraged to bring their unique perspectives to the table.

I’m fortunate to work with an incredible team at CDS, where collaboration and shared passion for education make every challenge easier to tackle. Being part of such a welcoming and inclusive environment has deepened my commitment to the work we do. I’m surrounded by people who genuinely care about each other and about the students and educators we serve. That makes all the difference.

The most rewarding part of my job is knowing we are making a real difference for students who, like me, might otherwise feel forgotten or overlooked. There’s no greater joy than hearing about a student who has gained confidence because of a program BCOE implemented, or a teacher who feels more equipped to support their classroom thanks to a professional development event we offered through CDS.

Working at BCOE, where every student’s needs and backgrounds are not just acknowledged but truly valued, gives me a profound sense of purpose.

Together, we are building a future where every student has the chance to thrive and that makes every challenge worth it—because students always come first.

El Comienzo Emotivo de Mi Trayectoria en BCOE

La educación ocupa un lugar profundamente personal en mi corazón. Mis padres son inmigrantes que lo dieron todo para construir una vida mejor para mí y mis hermanos. Hicieron innumerables sacrificios para que pudiéramos tener acceso a oportunidades que ellos nunca tuvieron, y para ellos, la educación era la clave de esa vida mejor. Verlos trabajar incansablemente, a pesar de las adversidades, me inculcó un profundo respeto por el poder de la educación y por hasta dónde llegan los padres para asegurar el futuro de sus hijos. Ahora que soy madre, comprendo aún más ese impulso. No quiero nada más que mis hijos reciban la mejor educación posible; una donde sean vistos, apoyados y celebrados por quienes son. Por eso, el trabajo que hago es tan personal. Sé lo que es luchar en un sistema que no estaba diseñado para mí. Todos los días me motiva la creencia de que cada estudiante merece una educación inclusiva, solidaria y empoderadora.

Mi primer año en la Oficina de Educación del Condado de Butte ha sido simplemente transformador. Cuando era estudiante, luché sin el apoyo vital que tanto necesitaba: la instrucción bilingüe, los programas de ESL, o incluso materiales básicos en mi idioma nativo estaban fuera de mi alcance. Como estudiante de un programa de aprendizaje de dos idiomas, es increíblemente emocionante y satisfactorio estar ahora en una posición en la que puedo ayudar a garantizar que los estudiantes de hoy reciban las oportunidades y recursos que yo nunca tuve.

Recuerdo vívidamente las dificultades que enfrenté tratando de aprender inglés en un sistema escolar que no me veía ni me entendía. Me sentía invisible y desamparada. Esas experiencias dejaron una huella duradera en mí. Ahora, ser parte de una organización que pone a los estudiantes por encima de todo me hace sentir como si hubiera cerrado un círculo completo. Para mí, esto no es solo un trabajo; es una forma de retribuir y de ayudar a los niños que están recorriendo un camino que conozco muy bien. Es una manera de honrar a esa niña que una vez fui y de asegurarme de que cada niño se sienta apoyado y visto.

Habiendo enfrentado estos desafíos de primera mano, ahora estoy en una posición en la que puedo ayudar a garantizar que los estudiantes de hoy reciban las oportunidades y el apoyo que yo no tuve. Aunque no esté en el campo visitando escuelas, estoy agradecida de poder desempeñar un papel de apoyo en el trabajo que realizan nuestros coordinadores y administradores. Al ayudar con la logística y la organización detrás de escena, mi objetivo es asegurarme de que todo funcione sin problemas mientras trabajan directamente con las escuelas. También brindo apoyo en la organización y ejecución de los eventos de aprendizaje profesional que nuestro equipo de Coordinated District Support (CDS) organiza para educadores de todo el condado. Saber que estoy contribuyendo a programas y eventos que equipan a los maestros con las herramientas y el conocimiento que necesitan para apoyar a sus estudiantes le da un sentido muy significativo a mi trabajo.

Trabajar en BCOE ha sido una experiencia verdaderamente especial. Desde el momento en que me uní, me he sentido valorada y apoyada, no solo como empleada, sino como persona. El trabajo que hago detrás de escena y el apoyo que brindo a nuestros coordinadores y administradores es apreciado y valorado. Esto hace que mis contribuciones se sientan aún más significativas. El sentido de comunidad aquí es innegable. Se siente como un segundo hogar, donde la diversidad es abrazada y todos son alentados a aportar sus perspectivas únicas. Tengo la suerte de trabajar con un equipo increíble en CDS, donde la colaboración y la pasión compartida por la educación hacen que cada desafío sea más fácil de superar. Ser parte de un entorno tan cálido e inclusivo ha profundizado mi compromiso con el trabajo que hacemos. Estoy rodeada de personas que genuinamente se preocupan unos por otros y por los estudiantes y educadores a los que servimos, y eso marca toda la diferencia.

Lo más gratificante de mi trabajo es saber que estamos haciendo una diferencia real en la vida de los estudiantes que, como yo, podrían sentirse olvidados o ignorados. No hay mayor alegría que escuchar sobre un estudiante que ha ganado confianza gracias a un programa implementado por BCOE, o un maestro/a que se siente más capacitado para apoyar su salón de clases gracias a un evento de desarrollo profesional que organizamos a través de CDS. Trabajar en BCOE, donde no solo se reconocen, sino que se valoran verdaderamente las necesidades y los antecedentes de cada estudiante, me da un profundo sentido de propósito.

Juntos, estamos construyendo un futuro donde cada estudiante tiene la oportunidad de prosperar, y eso hace que cada desafío valga la pena, porque los estudiantes siempre son lo primero.
